Dr. Fan Xu is an Assistant Professor at the School of Automation and Perception, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. For many years, she has been engaged in research on modeling and control of soft robotics and has achieved innovative theoretical results. She has published 18 high-level journal papers in the field of robotics (including IEEE Transactions and Soft Robotics), of which 12 are first-author papers and 4 are corresponding-author papers. She has also published 11 international conference papers, including 7 papers in top-tier robotics conferences such as IROS and ICRA. Her related research has received notable recognition, including the 2019 IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics Best Paper Award Nomination (as first author) and the First Prize of the 2021 Invention and Entrepreneurship Award for Innovation from the China Invention Association (ranked 5/5).
Dr. XU has presided over several projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) General and Youth Programs, a Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, and served as project leader in the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Young Scientist Program. She has also participated in major projects such as NSFC Key Programs and the National Key R&D Program. Dr. Xu was selected for the “Shanghai Super Postdoctoral Program” in 2021. She has served as Associate Editor for IEEE ICRA 2022, 2023, and 2024, Exhibition Chair for IEEE/RSJ IROS 2025, Finance Chair for IEEE ROBIO 2022, and Registration Chair for IEEE RCAR 2022, and has been a Program Committee member for IEEE RCAR (2017–2021) and WCICA 2018.
